East of Oakhaven and Lake Glasstongue, in the northeast reaches of the Shrouded Weald, can be found a modest home far from any beaten path.
Locals know to stay away from it. While it seems harmless, they know it’s warded with terrible traps and spells put in place by its sole resident.
Its owner is Runewytta, a Daughter of Hekate, and the Tenebrous Crone in these parts of Wydyr.
Her face belies her age. Runewytta is far older than she appears. The shadowy wisdom that shines from her youthful eyes and rolls from her light mouth tells a different story.
Runewytta presides over the local witches in this area who serve Hekate. Those who don’t serve her stay far away.
She took up residence in this area some 80 years ago when two things happened:
1. The Caeldghul began to attract attention from those outside of Wydyr, and
2. It became apparent that at least one Whore of Lilith was influencing the court at Gaunt Wydyr.
In the first instance, witches near Rath Mor reported that shadowy groups were sometimes seen moving along the coast of that enigmatic lake at night. Since liminal phenomena such as The Caeldghul are the province of the Daughters, Runewytta was tasked with keeping an eye on things there… at a discreet distance. Inquiries with the Great Druid Yarro yielded scant results, so Runewytta has employed a handful of sympathetic rangers to scout and periodically report back to her. Since Runewytta and Sabanorak, the Master of Tower Nythros, are decidedly not on speaking terms for esoteric and political reasons, she knows little of his research into the region other than what those rangers can gain from him.
In Gaunt Wydyr, court intrigue took a turn for the worse about a century ago and has recently apexed with Countess Mauraeda expelling a particular cabal of local nobles from her sight. Said nobles relocated to Roscrana and let it be known the Countess drove them from the capital because they opposed certain activities in a certain part of the dungeons underneath the keep. Runewytta suspects those areas may hide an entrance to the Qliphothic tunnels which reach throughout Fayn and thus an agent of Lilith may be operating near the Countess. Runewytta has considered hiring experienced adventurers to penetrate the dungeons beneath Gaunt Wydyr to investigate the rumored activities, but so far has not for want of details. That may soon change.
Adventurers traveling through the northern parts of the Shrouded Weald may very well encounter Runewytta… especially if they’ve been making themselves well known. She will size them up for potentially being employed in either of her devouring interests.
